Hair & Beauty Curriculum 3 I’s
Vision and Intent
In order to improve their ability to plan, conduct research, and present ideas, students will examine the skills and strategies employed in the hair and beauty industry. Additionally, they will look at the business side of the hair and beauty industry and get the chance to learn about marketing fundamentals, how entrepreneurship benefits the industry, and how to choose and create promotional strategies and materials.
This qualification is designed to use the context of hairdressing and beauty therapy as a vehicle to support students to develop broad and comprehensive understanding of the sector and related industries but, more importantly, of core academic knowledge and study skills that will support progression into post-16 and higher education.
Hair and Beauty is aimed at Students aged 14-16 who have an interest in developing a broad understanding of the hairdressing and beauty therapy sector and related industries, including retail, leisure, manufacturing and other personal care services.
The Maltings Hair and Beauty curriculum will enable learners to:
Have a broad and comprehensive understanding of the hair and beauty sector.
Develop a significant knowledge core which spans the vocational sector and related industries.
Be academic and study skills that will support progression within the hair and beauty sector and more broadly.
Understand the qualification content will provide students with an understanding of the chemistry of hair, beauty and nail products, as well as the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system.
Subject Implementation

Encouraging students to contribute to the life of the school and the community, by working with ‘real’ contexts to develop their skills and knowledge.
Our curriculum will enable students to: Develop new skills through a variety of interesting contexts to foster enjoyment.
Have an increasing level of challenge and complexity to be able to make enquiries regarding topic content.
Subject Impact
Students will also explore the business aspect of the hair and beauty sector, the broad related industries and understand the aspirational career opportunities available. Students will have the opportunity to explore the principles of marketing and how entrepreneurship supports the hair and beauty sector, including how to select and design appropriate promotional activities and materials.
Students in the Faculty will develop a detailed knowledge of, and master the skills required to successfully complete the course in which students may progress on to a Hairdressing, Beauty or Media Make Up college course, seek employment as an Apprentice in a salon or may work in other related industries.
A Maltings Academy Hair and Beauty student will:
Develop their character, including their resilience, confidence and independence, so that they contribute positively to the life of the school, to their local community, and to the wider environment.
Be stretched and challenged with new industry ready skills in addition to learning more advanced techniques to prepare them for post 16 pathways.
Attain a variety of transferable life skills such as problem-solving, logical thinking, resilience and independence.
Acquire the skills and knowledge of using high end industrial products and equipment.
Form a broader range and higher future level of further education, training, employment and career opportunities.
