Extended Curriculum
Engaging in extra-curricular activities provides students with the chance to hone and develop their personal skills and interests and to build up valuable additional experiences. This builds character and social confidence. A broad and diverse programme of extra-curricular activities is the best way to ensure high participation in these valuable experiences.
Educational visits and events linked to the curriculum are important because they provide all students with the opportunity to participate in experiences, which they may not be able to within the familial context. We view such visits and events as powerful positive teaching tools that can enhance not only the academic curriculum, but also the Social Moral Spiritual and Cultural development of all students.
Intent
At Maltings Academy our aim is to further provide students with an opportunity to develop their social skills, build skills and knowledge within a specific subject discipline, and develop general academic and soft skills. Trips and educational visits provide the gateway for real-life learning, making connections between the classroom and the real world. They can motivate and consolidate learning. They provide the chance to put learning into practice, and is one aspect that we all remember from our school days.
Our extra curricular programme and enrichment offer allows students to be exposed to experiences beyond the classroom and to develop curiosity, a love of learning, as well as confident young people.
Intended Impact
We believe that the learning journey through school is not just about securing educational qualifications, we value the whole experience that our students receive here and understand that time spent developing extra-curricular interests is pivotal to ensuring our young people have secure cultural awareness, are exposed to academic enrichment which strengthen character development, oracy and preparation for adulthood.
