Senior Leadership Team

Executive Principal of Witham Secondary Academies

Mr J Szynal BEd, DMS, NPQH jszynal@maltingsacademy.org
"I have been teaching since September 1986 and in that time have worked in five totally different schools in terms of intake and OfSTED grading. I trained as a teacher of PE and Maths at Chichester University and would thoroughly recommend university life to youngsters today. As Executive Principal my role is predominantly setting the Vision and strategic direction for the Academy ensuring that every single student achieves well and leaves the Academy as a decent well-rounded individual. My personal ambition is for every student to say they                                            had a fun time at school and were happy."

Head of Academy
Mrs E Baker BA (Hons) NPQH - ebaker@maltingsacademy.org
"Throughout my career so far, I have worked hard to ensure that I and those around me put the students at the very heart of our thinking. My educational philosophy has always been rooted in the firm belief that every child matters and in providing learning contexts which are stretching, tailor made, inspiring and enjoyable. I have worked at Maltings Academy for just over five years now and feel very privileged to work with outstanding students and staff."

Vice Principals
Mr J Forbesjforbes@maltingsacademy.org
"I have been working at the Academy since September 2013 as part of the Senior Leadership Team and Art Department. I currently lead the Academy on Teaching & Learning. During my time in teaching I have been a Head of Department, Head of Year and Director of KS3. Although I now teach a range of subjects across the Academy I am a specialist Art teacher with a First Class degree in Fine Art from Northampton University."

"I began my career at Seven Kings High School in Ilford and have since taught in seven Essex schools. I have degrees from the University of East Anglia and the University of Cambridge. I trained as an English teacher at the University of Hull. I have responsibility for Curriculum and I am totally committed to ensuring that students have an education which will allow them to succeed and to develop a lifelong love of learning. I believe that the students of Witham should be able to take up the very best opportunities when they move on to the world of work or higher education."

Assistant Vice Principal

Mr M Slatter mslatter@maltingsacademy.org
"I currently have responsibility for Student Welfare and Support, including Safeguarding and Child Protection. I have been teaching since 1999, and my specialist subject area is Physical Education. I studied for a BA Honours degree at Brighton University, and I particularly enjoy Football, Athletics and Tennis. Maltings Academy is the second school that I have worked in, and I find the role very rewarding as I have the opportunity to work with, and support a range of young people who need specific guidance at various stages in their school career."

Assistant Vice Principal

Mrs S Shannon - lshannon@maltingsacademy.org
"I have worked in secondary education for 12 years. I have held various roles such as a class teacher, Head of Year, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Director of Inclusion and now Assistant Vice Principal.  I hold the National Accredited SENCO Award and I am also part of the Super Senco programme run by Essex.  I pursued a career in teaching as I believe knowledge is power and by playing a part in enabling all students to learn, I feel honoured to be in some small way instrumental in shaping a positive future for students and the                                                  community."
