Students’ success in our Award in Personal Finance

Year 8 students from The Maltings Academy in Witham, Essex have been studying the Award in Personal Finance (APF1) with great success.

For the second year running Ingrid Leatherdale, the teacher, has delivered the Level 1 qualification to Year 8 students. Usually recommended for Year 10, these bright students have achieved superb results for Unit 1, with 84% having achieved either a Distinction or a Merit so far.

Colchester Institute: Best Student Award

At the Annual 14-16 Colchester Institute Awards eveningthe following students received awards in the "Best Student"category:

  • Luke Hancock – Year 11 Motor Mechanics
  • Lewis Newlove – Year 11 Construction
  • Harrison Strange – Year 10 Construction.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Jason Deal (Year 11) and Jack Cooper (Year 10) who received their attendance certificates. Congratulations to these award winners!

Art Exhibition 2011

Tuesday 23rd June saw hundreds of people arrive at Maltings Academy art department for the 2011 summer art exhibition, which displayed work from their year 11, 12 and 13 students. Display boards, walls and corridors from floor to ceiling were covered in artwork from students that have just completed one of the art courses on offer at the Academy, which include GCSE fine art and photography, AS and A2 level fine art and photography, as well as a BTEC level 2 extended certificate in art and design.

Year 10 JSLA Students

Maltings Academy year 10 JSLA students joined Mr Daniels (Schools Sports Co-Ordinator), in January, to lead a multi-skills event for students in years 3 and 4 from Powers Hall Junior School, Howbridge Junior School and Holy Family Primary School in the Bramston Sport Centre sports hall. All the primary school students had a fantastic time and improved their performances, through excellent coaching from the Maltings Academy JSLA students. The primary school students performed a standing broad jump, balance test, sprint test, foam javelin throwing competition and much more.
