How do we select our trainees?

We will shortlist based on relevant school experience and appropriate qualifications.

Interviews will be held at the academies and will include an academy tour with students, teaching a lesson, a literacy test and a panel interview. You will be told in advance about the content of the lesson and the age group you will be teaching. It is a rigorous and thorough process, designed to get the best match of applicant to the places available.

At the end of your placement if you are successful in gaining QTS and have proved yourself to be a “Good” teacher, then we will guarantee you an interview for any teaching vacancies at either academy.

Our academies are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

A Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate  at Enhanced Level will be required for all posts.

English trainee Started September 2017

My first term training at Maltings Academy has been hugely invaluable and one filled with extremely insightful learnings, support networks and achievements. The teachers across all departments, immediately made me feel part of the school, encouraging me to observe lessons, share feedback and ask any questions whenever and on whatever I needed help with. The hands on approach has enabled me to not only develop my classroom and teaching skills, but has also given me the opportunity to experience the role of a form tutor and hugely progressed my ability and confidence to support students' personal development".

Science trainee Started September 2017

"Training at Maltings Academy so far has been amazing, there is never a dull moment, students are eager to learn and the staff are very friendly and polite. I feel very lucky to be part of such a social science department and have learnt a lot already"

Science trainee Started September 2017

"Maltings Academy is a brilliant place to train, particularly in Science!  From the first day I started the entire department has worked together to support my training, often giving up their free time for development sessions.  With detailed feedback every day I can feel myself improving steadily and am confident that by the end of this year I will have gained the necessary skills to hit my NQT year running!"
