Support Learning

Helping you help your child

A very useful website for parents giving advice on all aspects of education from early years to university level.  This site allows parents to seek advice on concerns (bullying, internet access, rights and choices, alcohol) and new legislation as well as the option to join a forum to seek advice from other parents online.

More importantly is the option to seek support on “How to support and participate in your child’s learning”, offering advice from experts and fellow parents.

Getting involved in your child’s learning

Are you a parent who doesn’t know where to start? Do you ask the question “What did you do today” and get told “nothing”.  Follow the link below to watch a film starring James Nesbitt about how you can get more involved in your child’s learning.

Using the Internet

The greatest risk our children face online is being denied access. The Internet is essential to our children's education, future careers and lives. But even the most experienced Internet user doesn't understand how children use the Internet and how to help them have a safer and more enjoyable surfing experience.

Under Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1998 it is an offence to send an indecent, offensive or threatening letter, electronic communication or other article to another person and under Section 43 of the Telecommunications Act 1984 it is a similar offence to send a telephone message which is indecent offensive or threatening. In both cases the offence is punishable with up to six months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5000. Because the Malicious Communications Offence is more wide ranging than the Telecommunications offence it is more likely to be used by the Police than the Telecommunications Act offence.

Supporting Revision

Taking exams can be a nervewracking experience for a young student which can highly affect his or her grades. While you can't take your child's exam for them, you can help them study and provide a supportive environment.

Support Learning

Maltings Academy values the support that parents and carers provide, especially when it comes to encouraging them to do additional study outside of the classroom.
