This is a new GCSE in the ICT & Computing Department. The course is a mixture of 1 exam and 2 practical based controlled assessments. The exam is worth 40% of the marks and the assessments each worth 30%. The aim of the course is to develop understanding of current and emerging technologies and how they work, the use of algorithms in programming, the ability to create computer programs to solve problems, and to evaluate the effective of computing on society.

The theory covers all the basics of how computer and networks operates, as well as looking at how programs are planned used flow charts and pseudo-code.

The practical aspects involves an extended investigation project, and experience in programming using the Python language

The syllabus used in the Academy is one that has been accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) and counts towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) qualification.
