The Student Council are elected by the students and consist of representatives across all year groups from Year 7 to the Sixth Form. They play an active role in life at Maltings Academy, bringing ideas and requests to our regular meetings, which are designed to help move the academy forward in a way in which the students would like.
From their budget the Student Council have recently contributed to the refurbishment of the Sixth Form common room and helped pay for lighting and audio equipment to make our hugely popular shows even better. This year they have toured the Houses of Parliament where they met with Brooks Newmark, MP and had a meeting in one of the side rooms. Our council have recently established us as an ‘Eco-School’ and we are delighted to have been awarded the Bronze Award. They are involved in other projects such as raising money for charities and are currently meeting with the Town Council with a view to setting up a youth café in Witham.
Their busy schedules also include observing lessons and having had training on this they are able to give feedback to teachers on what they have observed. They have also participated in the interview process and appointment of senior members of staff and we take their views very seriously and work hard in conjunction with them to make Maltings Academy a better place.
