At Witham 6 Forms we believe that experience is just as important as results. In order to increase our students' awareness of life after A levels we provide a number of opportunities to help them develop the transferable skills needed to be competitive in today's job market.
Felsted Model United Nations
Every year we enter teams in this prestigious event held at Felsted School, usually in February. Students work in teams to represent a desingated country in all aspects that are covered by the real UN and compete against each other. This event is held in very high regard and participants come from all over the world.
Academy Excellence Awards
Each year a number of students are nominated to submit essays for the Academy Excellence Awards. This is a national award programme that aims to inspire young people to demonstrate their passion in chosen topic areas and is superb preparation for Higher Education.
Insight into Higher Education (Essex University - June)
This event, usually held in June, is highly recommended as students get the opportunity to visit a campus university and to taste a little of university life. Students attend lectures, campus tours and have the opportunity to ask questions of current students.
University Super Fair (June)
Also in June, all of Year 12 are invited to attend this event. Here, every university from across the UK is represented along with lectures on a variety of subjects from specific courses to student life and student finance.
Insight into Leadership (July)
This is a 3 day Leadership event held for all year 12 students at both of our academies. Students are placed in teams and each team must form a company, design and market a product according to a specific brief. Students are also kept on their toes with unexpected challenges and team-building activities. Each team presents a company report and then tries to sell their manufactured product to younger students. The winning team get a prize as well. It is a busy event but great fun and a superb opportunity for all.

Electives
Aside from these calendared events we also like to encourage all students to expand their skill set by taking on work experience or voluntary positions in the community. Many of our students take up successful placements in our local nursery and primary schools, as well as in charity shops or care homes. A number of students also volunteer to help less fortunate young people through our links with Interact.
For others, this is an opportunity to develop sporting skills, coaching skills or even complete further study in the form of the Extended Project or additional master classes in subject areas. Our philosophy is that we will endeavour to offer opportunities for every student and that if students wish to participate in an activity or event that we do not currently offer, they should make a proposal to the 6th form staff.
Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.
