Student Council Update

posted 15 Jan 2015, 00:59 by Dean Stokes   [ updated 15 Jan 2015, 01:00 ]

To keep you all up to date with what's been happening at the student council meetings, we've decided to post an article like this one on the website each term.

What have we been doing?

This year in the student council we have been discussing some of the following things:

  • changing the seating in the academy atrium and outside the sports hall

  • which charities we should support as an academy and how we should raise money

  • the proposed merger with New Rickstones Academy

  • what goes in the newsletter

  • students having more involvement in assemblies

  • Cucina food options

  • being independent and leading change through discussions and the AET student voice conference

Our non-uniform day in October raised £751.90 for RNLI and Essex Air Ambulance whilst our December one raised a total of £654.10 for CRPS Awareness and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Our next one, on 6th Feb will be in aid of Starlight, a charity that grants wishes to terminally ill children from the local area.

We are also focusing on the future shape of the student council to see if we could take a different approach that could help us learn more about how decisions are made at higher levels and develop our skills further.  We are hoping to visit other schools in the near future.

If you have any concerns or issues you want discussed, please speak to your tutor reps who will bring them up at the year council meetings and possibly at the full student council meeting.

Thanks,
