The Maltings Academy Staff Cricket Team travelled to Terling Cricket Club to play two T20 matches in memory of the sadly missed Alan Bailey on Sunday June 22nd. Superb weather brought out many spectators both from Maltings (past and present) and from the cricket club, for whom Alan played for many years. The cricket club proved excellent hosts with a barbecue and a steady supply of refreshment, with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Trust. The two matches were played in an excellent spirit, with Terling Veterans winning the first game fairly comfortably before the staff, with some sympathetic umpiring, allied to some fine bowling, won the second game narrowly. Notable cricketing highlights included a magnificent yorker from Mr Pearce to unseat the Terling first XI captain, and a deceptive delivery from Mrs Bennett that resulted in a leg before wicket against the second XI captain, much to the joy of the hordes of club members basking in the evening sunshine by the pavilion. The results were of secondary importance, though, to the enjoyment of the day and to the magnificent total of over £400 that was raised in an excellent cause.
