The Pearson Teaching Awards have announced that Clare Baldwin has won the award for Eastern region Teaching Assistant of the year. My congratulations go to Clare and everyone who works alongside her. My congratulations go to Clare and everyone who works alongside her.

It is with great sadness that I can confirm the untimely death of one of our female Year 9 students who sadly passed away late last night.

She was a popular student at Maltings Academy, well liked and respected by students and teachers.

We ask that the privacy of the family is respected at this time and offer our deepest condolences to all who knew her.

Mobile phones are allowed in the Academy but need to be turned off and put away during lessons unless otherwise notified by the class teacher.

I am pleased to let you know that our OfSTED report from our Section 5 visit is available for you to view. If you are unable to access it and would like a hard copy, please contact jjoiner@maltingsacademy.org.

This is our first inspection under the new framework and, although it isn't as we'd like, there are very many positives to take from it. It actually reads like an Academy that will be good once the final outcomes match the national standards, which they will this summer.

Once again it is another big step forward from the previous inspection and once again your children have done themselves, you and the Academy proud.

We will continue to 'make our best better'.

Summer Term First Essex Bus passes, issued by Maltings Academy, have been posted home this week. If you have ordered but do not receive your pass by Friday 22 March, please contact the Finance Dept on ext 1204 or jholroyd@maltingsacademy.org.

Please note: This arrangement does not apply to travel passes issued by Essex County Council.

As usual, the Academy will be closing early on the last day of term, Thursday 28 March 2013. Students will be leaving at the end of period 4 (1:10pm). Food will be available on this day at lunchtime to students who are eligible for FSM; all other students are encouraged to buy their food and snacks at morning break.

The companies who are booked to transport students to and from Maltings Academy have been notified of the early finish.

Students are due back into the Academy on Monday 15 April 2013 at 8:30am (Week A).
