At Maltings Academy we are privileged to have an up to the minute hairdressing salon which creates not only a training environment for the learners but a commercial training salon for clients to enjoy.

The Facilities

The salon boasts the latest electrical equipment and beautiful furnishings. The professional environment has a comfortable reception area to relax and observe the learners whilst waiting for appointments before receiving a thorough consultation that is over seen by the teacher. Then your service will commence with a relaxing shampoo and condition in the massage seating of the cleansing area.

Progression

Creative hairdressers and skilled salon managers have never been more in demand. With fast-moving fashions in hair the range of treatments offered in spas and salons is constantly changing and growing - this is a great choice for a creative, rewarding career.

We currently offer our Hairdressing courses to the Year 10 students who wish to have an introduction into the Hairdressing industry and the Year 12 students who wish to embark on a career with Hairdressing.

As students will be working with the public they all have a professional, smart and well-groomed appearance. Our professional environment encourages the students to be creative and develop their people skills by communicating with peers and clients.

The courses not only cover the technical hairdressing units such as styling, dressing, cutting, colouring, perming and long hair work they also cover generic units giving the learners the necessary skills to take forward in their chosen pathway, such as reception skills, health & safety, personal presentation and industry and occupational awareness.

The Commercial Salon

Our salon is open to the public on Friday  from May 2009; the sixth form learners have acquired sufficient skills to carry out technical services on clients, with the year 10 learners assisting them with their work.
