Fundraising for Charities

Terrence Higgins Trust: As you may already know, Tuesday 1st December 2009 was World AIDS Day and the Academy kindly held a non uniform day on the following Wednesday in which half the proceeds went to The Terrence Higgins Trust. This national HIV and sexual health charity helps raise awareness of HIV globally through better education andthrives to eliminate the stigma attached to the condition. Through students donations and selling of the iconic red ribbons the academy raised £340.90. Everyone at The Terrence Higgins Trust would like to thank the Academy’s staff and students for their generosity and support.

Operation Christmas Child 2009:

Thank you to all staff and students at Maltings Academy who were involved in collecting, packing and wrapping shoe boxes for ‘Operation Christmas Child’. We collected a total of 64 boxes and several bags of box fillers. There was a fantastic response from all those involved and there will be 64 very happy children as a result this Christmas in Kyrgyzstan.

Children in Need: On Wednesday 18 November, year 7 students helped to raise £270 for ‘Children In Need’. ‘Red’ house students raised the most money, total £113.38. The ’Red’ house were able to use the college common room and were then taken to the sports hall for activities with the sixth form students. The rest of year 7 were allowed, during the last lesson of the day, to also partake in activities as a surprise. The Sixth Form Committee very kindly made the total raised up to £300
