Thursday 21 June saw hundreds of people arrive at Maltings Academy art department for the 2012 summer art exhibition, which displayed work from year 11, 12 and 13 students. Click here for more information and pictures.

Display boards, walls and corridors from floor to ceiling were covered in artwork from students that have just completed one of the art courses on offer at the Academy, which include GCSE fine art and photography, AS and A2 level fine art and photography, and BTEC level 2 certificate in art and design.

There was also a display room for year 7 and 8 work, to celebrate the excellent successes at key stage 3 in art. Awards were given out to a number of students on the evening, for a variety of reasons including exceptional commitment and dedication to their art course, as well as demonstrating an outstanding ability in the subject.  The infamous ‘Spiller Award’, which is awarded every year to one exceptional student, was given to Katherine Ginn, year 13, for her exceptional commitment and ability in photography.

Staff, pupils, parents, ex-students, governors, local primary school representatives and people from the local pubic all attended.  The art department would like to thank for showing their support, as well as saying a huge ‘well done’ to all the students, they have worked extremely hard over the last year and should be extremely proud of themselves.
