Art
The Art Department is a popular subject within the school. We aim to produce a positive and purposeful atmosphere in the department with good teaching, enthusiastic learning, plenty of hard work and lots of creativity.
We run a broad art curriculum and every student gets to experience a variety of media including drawing, painting, design, clay, 3d sculpture, textiles, digital photography and black and white photography.
The Art Department is situated on the top floor of the new building and comprises a suite of four large purpose built art rooms, a sixth form art studio, an art office, a kiln room, a photography darkroom.
The department has plenty of exhibition space to display student’s work, which you see covered with artwork from ceiling to floor all year round.
We operate an open house system at lunchtime with art club five days a week. We run a variety of trips including visits to London galleries and a weekend in Paris. Over the years we have had some outstanding exam results and we are confidently looking into the future to build on this success.
During Key Stage 3 you will get to explore a new project every half term, looking at various kinds of artwork and experimenting with lots of different materials, including drawing, painting, designing and sculpture. At Key Stage 4 you can choose to take a GCSE in art and design, art and textiles or photography, where you will explore various themes and develop your own ideas. At Key Stage 5 we run AS and A2 level Art and Design. If you choose this subject you will get to explore various genres and develop your own artistic style, which would prepare you for studying towards an art degree at university.
